The special national forest Tran Hung Dao relic site, it is located at the foot of Slam Cao Mountain in 2 communes Tam Kim, Hoa Tham (in Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang province) and far from Cao Bang City about 50 km. This is a relic site which is associated with a particularly historical period of the Vietnamese Revolution and it has become a red address on the journey to Cao Bang now.
The special national Tran Hung Dao relic site is the place where marked the establishment and operation of the Vietnam Propaganda and Liberation Army Group (VNTTGPQ), the forerunner of the Vietnam People’s Army. At the same time, this is also a place where is associated with the life and career of revolutionary activities of General Vo Nguyen Giap – the excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh.

The relic site consists of 5 important points: Tran Hung Dao forest relics (including the location for setting up the Vietnam Propaganda Team for the Liberation of the Army, the Resting Hall and the kitchen, the water source for drinking, Slam Cao Mountain Peak); Tham Khau cave (Tam Kim commune) – used to be a communication station, served rice for revolutionary comrades; Phai Khet Fort (Tam Kim Commune) – the place where the first battle of the Vietnamese army (December 25th, 1944); Na Ngan fort (Hoa Tham commune) – the place where had the second victory of Vietnam Propaganda Team for the Liberation of the Army; Va Pha relic (Tam Kim commune).
With these historical values, in 2013, the Prime Minister decided to rank Tran Hung Dao Forest Historical Site (Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province) as a special national relic. Since then, the conservation, embellishment and promotion of the relics’ value have been given special attention by the local authorities, through the upgrading of the route from Cao Bac mountain and the route from the provincial road 34 to the relic area, construction and putting to use the welcoming houses and memorial houses.
