Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan is the son of Tran Lieu, niece of King Tran Thai Tong. He was born in 1228 in Tuc Mac Village, My Loc commune, Nam Dinh Province (Loc Vuong Ward, Nam Dinh City today). He plays an important role in the 3 battles against Mongolian invaders in 13th century (in 1258, 1285, and 1288). Especially, in 2nd and 3rd battles against Mongolian invaders, he was appointed Quoc Cong Tiet Che, the army commander. The Death Anniversary of Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan is celebrated on every 20th August on the lunar calendar in commemoration of his great contributions. The anniversary also shows the fine tradition “When drinking water, remember its source” of Vietnam.
