The festival reminds people about showing love and respect for their parents. It origins from the legend about Bodhisattva Muc Kien Lien (Bồ tát Mục Kiền Liên), who saved his mother from suffering tortures in hell. The festival is celebrated annually in commemoration of parents and ancestors. It becomes a great festival that has been preserved for thousands of years in Vietnam. This festival is solemnly held in Bach Dang Giang relic site with many rituals such as main ritual, releasing ritual, rose wearing ritual… Vu Lan is not only a sacred religious event but also the festival of human love. It has a significant meaning as the festival reminds all people to remember their origins and the national fine tradition “When drinking water, remember its source”.
